Event Calendar: September 29 - October 3

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usWeek 5 is here and that means, unbelievably, that we're nearly a quarter done the entire course. Both classes have already handed in quite a few assignments and soon I hope to have your marks for the course ready. Also, I'll be posting a short story called 'Death of the Centaur' in various parts on the website that will be discussed in class. It will be expected that you have read these sections and will be prepared to discuss them in class.

2D - Blog Assignment

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usYour blog assignment is designed to get you thinking about how blogging works and how it can effectively be used. Using your 'Create a Blog' assignment as a base, please make sure you fulfill all of the criteria that I've laid out for you.

The actual blog posts, which I'll be assigning in class, will also be marked later on, so don't worry too much about the content of your initial post. It should be welcoming or interesting at any rate. Please be aware that your blog may be seen by anyone at the school (even the principal) so be very careful of the kind of content you choose to display. Also, the blog will be the method in which you hand in your ISU assignment in a few weeks and the better it all looks, the better your mark will be.

Your blog will be marked based on the following checklist:

1. Does it have an original title?
2. Does it have a subhead (line of informal text under your title)?
3. Does it have biographical information about yourself?
4. Does it have a first post with info on who you are and what you'll write about?
5. Does it contain at least one picture in your post and one in the sidebar?
6. Does it have at least three links on the sidebar?
7. Are comments enabled so that anyone can post a question or thought?

Quite simply, if it meets all of the above criteria, then you'll get the marks. Later you'll get more assignments based on improvements and new content you've added to your blog, so try to never look at it as a completed project, but rather something that is always changing. Get your marks and become master of this interweb thingy.

Event Calender - Week 2

Hey everyone. Hopefully all of your classes are going smoothly because the workload will soon be ramping up. The best advice I can give you is to do the work when you get it so that it doesn't pile up on you.

Other than that, it seems like summer is slowly fading away. It's getting darker sooner and light is hard to find first thing in the morning. What shall we do about that, you ask? I think tests all around are a good solution!

Monday - new grammar lesson, new article on slang

Mentor:
Today was a busy mentor period and part of what we assembled for wasn't covered. If any of you are budding artists and are interested in trying to make a poster to represent Terry Fox and Run for the Cure, you can stop by to see me and get supplies to make a poster. R.H. King has won this contest two years running and it would be great to keep up the trend.

For those of you who haven't handed in your fee and permission forms for Camp Robin Hood, please do so as soon as possible. You can leave this in either the English office or the Tech office. Make sure you clearly label anything you hand in so that there isn't any confusion.
